A local singing group and a tin smelting demonstration are two extra events that have been added to Geevor Tin Mine’s packed summer programme.
The mining museum, in Pendeen, will be welcoming The Cape Cornwall Singers on Sunday 12th August. The male singing group will be performing a selection of local songs, many of which have fascinating mining references, from 1-1.30pm and 2.30-3pm.
On Friday 17th August, local craftsman and metallurgist Geoff Treseder will demonstrate how rock is transformed into metal. A former miner, Geoff knows a thing or two about tin and is very happy to answer any questions about Geevor and tin production. His demonstrations will take place at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.15pm and 2pm.
Geevor’s Learning Team Manager, Clint Hosking, said: “I am thrilled that we have secured both Geoff and The Cape Cornwall Singers as part of our summer events. Geoff’s demonstration is very visual and engaging for the audience and The Cape Cornwall Singers will add a lovely atmosphere to the site.”
Both events are free with site admission. For more information, visit www.geevor.com or call 01736 788662.
Ends 31 July 2012
